MISSION

ThinkTech Hawaii

Picture
ThinkTechHawaii, a Hawaii 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, was founded in 2001 in order to raise public awareness about the importance of tech to the diversification of Hawaii's economy. The evidence is mounting that Hawaii's tech sector is achieving stature and growth, and by some estimates it now represents a $3 billion slice of Hawaii's gross revenues, equal to the hospitality industry.

Starting with a web site and radio show on Hawaii Public Radio (KIPO FM 89.3), Jay Fidell organized a group of tech evangelists dedicated to the promotion of tech, science and globalism to a growing audience in the Hawaii community. As interest has grown, Jay has added a ThinkTech column and blog first in the Honolulu Advertiser and then in the Star-Advertiser.

The ThinkTech Studio operating at Davies Pacific Center is symbolic of the story by which tech has grown in Hawaii. Recognizing the emergence of video as a primary source of content, ThinkTech has captured a growing library of interviews, presentations and commentaries from entrepreneurs, scientists and leaders and has made their content available to a broad audience.

These videos have also come to include interviews and discussions among newsmakers, executives, scholars and diplomats in global business and diplomacy in the Asia in Review series with host David Day, an instructor at the Shidler College of Business and Hawaii Pacific University.

With its studio, ThinkTech is able to offer a voice and vision about technology and globalism in Hawaii. The resulting videos appear on this site.  The ThinkTech videos also appear on OLELO Community Television Channel 54.  See olelo.org for the broadcast schedule.

ThinkTech has also presented a number of classes and conferences in various venues over the years, including Pacific New Media of the University of Hawaii, the John A. Burns School of Medicine in Kakaako, the Plaza Club in downtown Honolulu, the Anthology Theatre in Pauahi Tower in Bishop Square and the Capitol Auditorium in the State Legislature.  ThinkTech now regularly collaborates with the Hawaii Venture Capital Association in presenting monthly luncheon panel programs at the Plaza Club providing candid conversations on issues of concern to the business, tech and professional communities.

In the process, ThinkTech has collaborated with various other local organizations, including the Hawaii Venture Capital Association, Pacific New Media of the University of Hawaii, the Anthology Marketing Group, TechHui, the Hawaii Science and Technology Council, the Society of Professional Journalists, the Public Relations Society of America, OLELO Community Television, Pacific Resources for Education and Learning (PREL) and Enterprise Honolulu.

Starting in 2010, ThinkTech began producing a weekly TV feature show on OC16, aptly named ThinkTech on OC16.  The premiers are shown on OC16 every Sunday at 10:30 p.m. and repeated an additional six times in the week to follow.  Starting in 2011, ThinkTech began broadcasting topical radio shows on KGU Radio 760 AM, and now has a drive time series 4:00-5:00 p.m.  covering business on  energy on Wednesdays, Asia in Review on Thursdays and tech on Fridays.

From its inception, ThinkTech has been an ardent and enduring supporter of the benefits of tech and globalism to our community and to our future. ThinkTech believes that technology will give Hawaii new global reach, will help us generate clean energy and export revenues, and will stimulate our children to understand, explore and compete with opportunities in the global marketplace.

Going forward, ThinkTech is committed to continuing its efforts at raising public awareness in these areas, through its publications and videos and the dissemination of its messages to our community.
